PROGRAMS Access Arts - In January 2006 we moved our office on North Providence Road in Columbia, Missouri to the office at Access Arts, which is the address shown on this home page. Both organizations have a similar mission, however, Access Arts has on-site equipment and facilities in the fine arts for any person with, or without a disability. Classes in pottery, weaving, drawing, photography, woodworking, jewelry making, music, sculpture, wire wrapping, and origami can be taken according to their class schedule, which can be obtained by calling their director, Chris, at 573-875-0275. There is fairly nominal fee for the Access Arts classes, however, in special cases, grants may be available to cover the cost of the class. If interested in coordinating a Home School art program using the facilities at Access Arts, contact Fred Berry at Ability Arts, 573-875-2872. Art and Soul Workshops - Visual and performing arts workshops, exhibits and artist development sessions throughout the state provide emerging artists with disabilities opportunities to explore abilities, expand careers and heighten artistic exposure. If you want to schedule an adult workshop contact us. An adult workshop up to 15 adults at 2 hours per session, once a week for 8 weeks runs between $500 and $1000 depending on location, and medium used and professional art personnel needed for the class. Arts for All - Wheel chair adaptive art tools that can be used in inclusive settings for those with and without disabilities. VSA arts of Missouri is able to bring this equipment to you for a fee. We are happy to help you obtain funding to help bring it to your event. There are several types of art tools to chose from - art rollers with wheelchair attachments, chalk writer, bubble blower with a wheel chair attachment, Pogo Sticks used to stamp posters, the table top poster maker, and the"mighty rollo"print maker. This equipment is great for festivals, or a "one day arts event" at your school. The per day cost is typically between $250 and $400, depending on location and class size. Artist in Residency - We provide artist with disabilities to classrooms for specially coordinated programs in some aspect of the fine arts. The art program is designed to complement and reinforce some portion academic curricula of the class. Additionally, the artist is able to relate to the students the nature of his/her disability and s/he has been able to excel in his/her skills despite whatever obstacle the disability may present. The program usually consists of 4 to 8 sessions over a period of 1 to 3 months. The minimum cost for these programs is $1500, however, it can be tailored for virtually any art experience needed. Creative Writing - Workshops focus on writing prose, poetry and short stories; individuals gain valuable skills in the art of self-expression and effective communication. These are more often done in "Art and Soul" mentioned above. These workshops are generally done in the context of the Art and Soul Workshop, night classes, and the cost runs about the same. Wheelchair Dancing - If interested in doing a wheel chair dancing program, contact us. Cost varies depending on location and dance instructor. A two hour "dance event" with dance instruction and social hour can run between $200-$1,000 depending on how elaborate the event is. Ability Arts Festivals - Community-based one and two day celebrations for children, youth and adults with and without disabilities feature educational workshops, hands-on activities, demonstrations, performances and art exhibits for participants. We do children's festivals in Kansas City, and we support city festivals in Blue Springs, Columbia, and Jefferson City, using principally Arts-for-All equipment, and tempera poster painting, both designed for children, although adults may also participate. Cost for city festivals run between $200-300 per day, depending on location. A special school children's festival typically runs between $800-$1,200, and generally takes a couple of months of planning and coordination, depending on the level of complexity for the festival. If you are scheduling a "city festival" contact us by phone or email.
